| ANNOUNCING THE DECORATIVE ARTS TRUST INTERNSHIP
With museums cutting staff and historic sites reducing employees, many American decorative arts graduate students are finding it difficult to find meaningful employment. Not being able to nurture the next generation could leave a black hole in the museum world, and, of course, it is very disappointing for gifted recent grads who have set their sights on the American decorative arts field. Believing that if everyone did a little we could solve a lot of problems, the Decorative Arts Trust, in conjunction with the Nantucket Historical Association, has created a year-long internship. The first Decorative Arts Trust intern will be known as the Decorative Arts Trust/Nantucket Historical Association Curatorial Fellow, and the position given to Sarah Parks who received her master’s this spring from the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture. Brock Jobe, Professor of American Decorative Arts at the Winterthur Museum and University of Delaware, says, “Sarah has the decorative arts knowledge and the maritime interest to make her an excellent choice for this internship.” Bruce Perkins, President of the Trust, commented that he is very happy this endeavor will provide a meaningful experience for a gifted student. Trust members deserve a pat on the back for continuing to contribute to the Dewey Lee Curtis Scholarship Program which not only provides symposium scholarships, Museum Summer School scholarships and summer research grants, but now provides for a yearly museum internship. Thank you and keep on giving!
